Victor Lyalko is a renowned Russian martial artist who has written a book on female self-defense. In his book, Victor explains how women can successfully protect themselves against a male attacker. Hence, we at StyleCraze have chosen 7 techniques that will help prove most effective at withstanding a male attacker!
1. Make Yourself Familiar With The Weak Spots
No matter how big or strong the attacker may be, you will always have the upper edge in the fight if you are well aware of the weak spots that you need to aim your attacks at. For instance, focusing your attacks on the attacker’s eyes, throat, nose, chest, knees, and groin region will give you a better chance at taking them down. No matter what style of attack you choose to adopt against the attacker, just keep in mind that your moves will be a lot more effective if you choose to aim them in the weak spots mentioned above.
2. Simple Moves Are Usually The Most Effective
You do not need to be trained in multiple fighting arts, such as kung fu or tae kwon do in order to take down the attacker. Using a few simple techniques, such as grabbing the attackers fingers and bending them in the opposite direction or jabbing them with your fingers in their throat, can help disorient them long enough for you to escape.
3. If You Are Grabbed From The Front
Most courses on self-defense advise you to aim for the attacker’s groin region since a simple punch or kick can leave them stunned long enough for you to make your escape. However, there are times when you may not be able to use your hands freely due to being grabbed by the attacker. In that case, you can do the following moves. If there is little to no room between you and the attacker, use your hands as fists to create some space between you and the attacker. Then make use of your forehead to head-butt the attacker in the face, and quickly follow it up with a knee to the attacker’s groin in order to stun them.
If there is enough room between you and the attacker, you can use your hands to protect yourself from the attacker. Push the attacker with your left palm to create enough room between you and him in order to strike him with your right hand on the nose or throat. Quickly follow this up with a knee to the groin so as to disorient the attacker long enough for you to escape.
4. How To Free Your Hands
If the attacker happens to grab you by the hands, you can make use of the ‘rule of thumb’ to free yourself from the attacker’s grip – rotating your arm to the side of the attacker’s thumb is a great way to weaken the attacker’s grip on your arm. Once your arm is directly underneath the attacker’s arm, pull strongly to free your arm from their hold.
5. If You Are Grabbed From Behind
There may come an instance when the attacker may grab you from behind, as this is an easy way to get hold of your hands without allowing you to push them away. In such a case, you can bend down and try to use the back of your hand to hit the attacker. Even if you are unable to land a shot on the opponent, it does not matter. All you need to do is wait till they bring one of their legs forward to maintain their hold on you in your new position. Use this as an opportunity to grab them by the leg and pull upwards. This will cause even the biggest of attackers to lose their balance.
6. If You Are Grabbed From The Side
If you happen to be grabbed from the side, try to hit the attacker in the nose, jaw or throat with your elbow. Once there is enough room between you and the attacker, use your elbow to strike your attacker in the chest to disorient them. Making use of elbows and knees to strike your opponent can easily stun them.
7. If You Are Pressed Against A Wall
There are several times when an attacker might push you against a wall, thereby getting support from a seemingly second attacker in the form of the wall. In that case, use your hands to jab the attacker in the chest when both their arms are up. If only one of their arms is up, attack the attacker in the throat or the face. However, the most effective move is to use your forehead to attack the attacker.
Please share this article with your friends and family in order to stay protected against any attacker. You never know when you may need to make use of these moves. That being said, it is always a great idea to carry a can of pepper spray with you. But in the case where you may be unable to access the spray, it is always beneficial to be well accustomed to these self-defense techniques. Stay safe!
